Why launch Redemption Community Church? Aren't there plenty of churches already? Good question. Let me ask you a question: ever been to a restaurant which had salt shakers on every table? Probably never gave it much thought before, but the restaurant could just as easily placed one shaker in the middle of the dinning room and made people go to it if they wanted any seasoning. But they don't. The salt is distributed to meet the needs of the people where they are.
So how does table salt shakers relate to starting a new church? Well, in Matthew 5:13 Jesus calls his followers "salt of the earth". We are to season the lives of those around us. Now Jesus, like the restaurant, could just make one big ole' pile of salt and make all the people come to the pile in order to have their lives seasoned. Just like the restaurant, Jesus divides up his salt to best meet the needs of the people. This means that there will be many salt shakers in this world! That does not diminish the salt at the table next to us. And it may mean that there will be different types of salt in different places. There are different styles, colors, and flavors of salt. Each with its own unique qualities and purposes.
So here at Redemption we want to be the salt that Jesus made us to be! We want to season the lives of those we interact with, and we will celebrate when other salt shakers are used as well. It's really about putting flavor into the whole world, one life at a time.
