People are searching. They are looking for answers to questions they have. How many reading this post have used Google or another search engine in the past year?

Why did you use it?

What did you ask?

Most of us search to find out something we don't know. In Ecclesiastes 8:17 (NLT) it tells us that it is impossible for someone to know everything. “I realized that no one can discover everything God is doing under the sun. Not even the wisest people discover everything.” If you spent one Second looking at each individual search on Google for 2018, it would take you 1.2 Trillion seconds OR 13.8 Million days OR 38,051 years! You can spend multiple lifetimes searching and not know everything!

We can literally wear ourselves out trying to discover everything. Solomon, arguably the wisest man who ever lived, said this of searching for knowledge and wisdom: “Be careful, for writing books is endless, and much study wears you out.” (Ecclesiastes 12:12) So then what do we do? If we are limited in knowledge, and we are limited on time, what should we focus our searching on? Solomon gave us the answer in the next verse (12:13): “Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” The word “fear” is a Hebrew word that means to “respect” or “to be awe”. How do we respect God? We get to know Him. We read His Word; pray to Him; talk with Him; we SEARCH for Him.

The good news is that God promises us we will find him if we search for him (Jeremiah 29:13) -- “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” Jesus promised it in Matthew 7:8 -- “For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

So while we we never know everything that was in those 1.2 trillion searches (probably good we don't), we can spend our time SEARCHING and SEEKING for God and Truth.

To find more about God, search for “what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable…” (Philippians 4:8) He is not hiding to those who have eyes to see.
